How to strip the Gyt optical cable

Stripping a GYTXW optical cable involves carefully removing the outer jacket, armor, and inner fiber coatings using specialized tools to avoid damaging the fibers.

Tools and Safety

Kevlar scissors for cutting aramid fibersFiber optic cable stripper with multiple grooves for different buffer sizesHook blade knife for scoring jackets and armorAlcohol wipes or fiber cleaning solutionLint-free cloth or microfiber wipesFiber optic cleaver and inspection microscope for preparing fiber endsSafety glasses and gloves to protect from sharp fibers and armor fragmentsStep-by-Step Stripping Process1.

Prepare the Cable

Inspect the GYTXW cable for damage, kinks, or bends. Mark the length of cable to be stripped based on your termination or splicing needs. Ensure a clean, well-lit workspace free of dust and debris.

2.

Remove the Outer Jacket and Armor

If the cable has armor, mark the armor with a knife to indicate the length to remove. Cut and remove the armor carefully without cutting the ripcords inside. Use the ripcords to pull off the outer jacket and armor in two pieces, applying steady 90-degree tension.

For non-metallic armored cables, remove the outer jacket similarly, being cautious of any gel-type adhesive under the armor. 3.

Cut Aramid Fibers

Use Kevlar scissors to trim the aramid (strength) fibers near the jacket end. Wind the fibers into a bundle to make handling easier. 4.

Strip the Fiber Buffers

Use a fiber optic stripper to remove the outer buffer coating (typically 900 microns) in small increments (6–8 mm at a time) to avoid stressing the fiber. If the fiber has a secondary coating (250 microns), use the appropriate groove on the stripper to remove it gradually. Hold the stripper at a 45-degree angle to reduce stress and prevent breakage.

5.

Clean and Inspect

Clean the stripped fiber with alcohol wipes or a fiber cleaning solution. Use a lint-free cloth or microfiber wipe to remove debris. Inspect the fiber end with a microscope or visual fault locator (VFL) to ensure a smooth, defect-free cleave.

6.

Repeat for Multiple Fibers

If the cable contains multiple fibers, repeat the stripping, cleaning, and inspection process for each fiber individually. Maintain consistency and precision to ensure optimal signal transmission.

Tips

Take small cuts rather than trying to remove too much buffer at once. Always follow manufacturer guidelines for stripper blade depth and cleaver settings. Dispose of fiber scraps safely in a marked container to prevent injury.

By following these steps, you can safely strip a GYTXW optical cable while preserving the integrity of the fibers for termination or splicing.
