Manufacturing Process of Anti-corrosion Cable Trays

Anti-corrosion cable trays are manufactured using high-grade steel and treated with protective coatings such as hot-dip galvanizing, zinc-aluminum alloys, or powder coatings to ensure long-term durability in harsh environments.

Material Selection and Preparation

The process begins with high-quality steel that meets industry standards for strength and corrosion resistance. Steel sheets are cut to precise dimensions using laser cutting or punching equipment, ensuring uniformity and minimal waste. Before forming, the steel undergoes surface preparation, including degreasing, cleaning, and conditioning, which removes impurities and optimizes adhesion for subsequent anti-corrosion treatments.

Forming and Fabrication

Prepared steel sheets are shaped into cable tray components using roll forming machines for ladder-type, perforated, or solid-bottom trays. Complex bends, flanges, and mounting brackets are created with press brake operations, requiring skilled operators to account for material properties and springback. This ensures structural integrity and uniformity across production runs.

Anti-

Corrosion Treatments

Several anti-corrosion methods are applied depending on environmental conditions: Hot-Dip Galvanizing (HDG): Steel components are submerged in molten zinc at approximately 450°C, forming a thick zinc-iron alloy layer with excellent adhesion and corrosion resistance. This method is ideal for harsh outdoor, industrial, or coastal environments and can provide a service life of 40+ years. Standards such as GB/T 13912-2020 specify coating thickness and mass based on steel thickness, typically requiring a minimum zinc layer of 45µm for tray sheets 1.

5–3mm thick.

High-

Resistance Alloys (ZnAl, ZnMg, ZnNi): These coatings combine zinc with aluminum, magnesium, or nickel to enhance corrosion resistance, particularly in aggressive environments. They are applied via specialized processes like electroplating or thermal spraying and can achieve resistance exceeding 850 hours in salt spray tests. Galvanized Nickel and Cold Galvanizing: Galvanized nickel coatings last around 30 years and are suitable for heavy outdoor corrosion, while cold galvanizing provides a minimum of 12 years of protection for mild outdoor conditions.

Powder Electrostatic Spraying: This method applies a dry powder coating that is cured under heat, suitable for indoor dry environments, offering moderate corrosion protection with a lifespan of at least 12 years.

Quality Assurance and Testing

Manufacturers implement rigorous testing protocols to ensure corrosion resistance and structural performance. This includes chemical analysis for alloy content, mechanical testing for tensile strength, and standardized corrosion tests such as neutral salt spray tests (ISO 9227). Compliance with standards like IEC 61537 and EN ISO 14713-1 ensures the trays meet global performance requirements.

Final Assembly and Customization

After coating, trays are assembled with brackets, fasteners, and accessories. Designers must select compatible anti-corrosion layers for all components to prevent galvanic corrosion and ensure system longevity. Customization allows trays to meet specific load capacities and environmental conditions, optimizing performance for industrial, commercial, or outdoor applications.

Summary

The anti-corrosion cable tray manufacturing process integrates high-quality steel, precise forming, and advanced surface treatments to produce durable, long-lasting trays. The choice of coating—hot-dip galvanizing, high-resistance alloys, or powder coatings—depends on environmental exposure, desired lifespan, and cost considerations, with strict adherence to international standards ensuring reliability and safety.
