Manually generate cable tray tees

Cable tray tees can be manually generated by defining branch points, selecting appropriate dimensions, and specifying material and finish, either in CAD software or for physical fabrication.

Physical Tee Fittings

Cable tray tees are available in equal and unequal sizes for light, medium, and heavy-duty systems, with widths typically ranging from 50mm to 900mm. Materials include mild steel (pre-galvanized or hot-dip galvanized) and stainless steel 316L, with optional closed or ventilated covers. When ordering, specify the widths of the main run and branch (W1, W2, W3) and the finish (PG, HDG, or SS) to generate the correct part number, e.g., CTUT 25/0300/0150/PG for a pre-galvanized tee with W1=300mm and W2=150mm (Metsec).

Generating Tees in CAD/3D SoftwareAVEVA E3DCreate a route attachment point at the location where the branch will connect to the main tray. Use the Branch Dressing function to define the tee, cross, or reducer element. Ensure the material checkbox is selected to automatically assign the correct cableway material.

The branch fill levels determine the dimensions of the tee. Select branches in the desired order to avoid incorrect dressing due to cable fill levels. Right-click options allow you to select all branches, remove dressing, export data, or create a print preview.

Autodesk Revit

Revit requires a tee fitting with three connectors. A branch piece with only one connector cannot replace a tee directly. To manually generate a tee: Adjust the Type Properties → Fittings → Tee.

If a custom branch is needed, you can start a new unconnected tray run at right angles and annotate any modifications, such as chopping the upstand edge of the main tray.

Practical Installation Notes

In real-world construction, some regions use take-off branch fittings instead of standard tees. These may require modifying the main tray on-site to fit the branch, typically by cutting the upturned edge. Always ensure the branch dimensions match the main tray and that the material and finish are compatible with the environment (e.g., stainless steel for corrosive areas).

By following these steps, you can manually generate cable tray tees for both design modeling and physical installation, ensuring proper fit, material selection, and compliance with system requirements.
