Overview

A Visual Fault Locator (VFL), often pen-shaped, emits a visible red laser (typically 650nm) that travels through fiber optic cables. When the fiber is intact, the light passes through; if there are breaks, bends, or poor connections, the red light leaks out at the fault point, allowing technicians to visually locate issues.

Usage

Connect the VFL to the fiber optic cable using the appropriate ferrule or adapter. Turn on the red laser; the light will travel through the fiber. Inspect the fiber along its length or at the far end.
