Wiring method for distribution box switch

The wiring of a distribution box switch involves connecting incoming power lines to the main switch, distributing them through circuit breakers, and ensuring proper grounding and labeling for safety.

Incoming and Outgoing Lines

For a standard three-phase distribution box, the incoming line typically uses a five-wire system: three-phase lines (A, B, C), a neutral line, and a ground line (yellow with green stripes). 220V loads: Connect one phase line, one neutral, and one ground. 380V three-phase loads: Connect all three-phase lines plus a ground; neutral may be required for local control.

Special two-phase 380V equipment: Connect two-phase lines and a ground. The incoming line is usually connected to an air switch, circuit breaker, or knife switch. The neutral wire is pressed to the neutral terminal block, and the ground wire is pressed to the grounding terminal block.

Switch and Circuit Breaker Wiring

Each switch or circuit breaker receives a wire from the incoming point. Wiring can be direct or parallel, depending on the layout. The main circuit breaker is typically on the left side of the box, with branch circuits connected to the right.

Wires should be neatly bound with plastic ties, maintaining uniform spacing to prevent tangling or stress. For single-phase home distribution boards, the live wire from the energy meter connects to a double-pole MCB or RCD, then to the busbar segment of single-pole MCBs. Outgoing lines from these MCBs connect to final circuits like lights, fans, and appliances.

Neutral wires are routed through the neutral link, and all devices must be connected to the earth link for proper grounding.

Installation and Safety

Distribution boxes can be fixed panel, protective (closed), or drawer-type switchgear, depending on the application. After wiring, a safety inspection is essential to check for short circuits, overloads, and proper grounding.
